Visit St. John’s
Looking for a new church home and think you’d like to visit to St. John’s in Stamford? Here are a few tips to help you feel more comfortable and welcomed at our church!
Where is St. John’s Church located?
St. John’s is located at 201 S. Ferguson St. in Stamford, Texas. We are the big brown brick church building, just off the downtown square. You can’t miss it!
I want to come on Sunday but don’t know when things start.
Our Sunday School Bible classes start at 10 a.m. on Sunday mornings. We also have donuts and coffee that are available from 9:30 a.m. until morning worship, which starts at 10:50 a.m. On the fourth Sunday of the month, stick around afterwards and join us after the service for the Fellowship Meal!
What should I wear to Sunday Morning Services?
St. John’s is a “come as you are” type church! Some of us wear jeans (even shorts during the summer), some of us wear suits or our nicest Sunday dresses. Whatever makes you comfortable to come worship is what you should wear!
Ok, I’m at St. John’s, but where do I go now?
We know, we have a lot of doors! All doors are open, but the easiest ways to enter are from the two doors on the south side of the building (the farthest side from the main road). When you go in, go to the second floor for the main sanctuary for the worship service, or head downstairs to the first floor for a variety of Sunday School classes or to go to the Fellowship Hall.
Where do my kids go when we arrive at church?
We have a variety of classes for kids of all ages on Sunday mornings. Of course, all children are welcome in the worship service and children and children 4 years and younger are welcome in church nursery or the worship service. There are always people available on lower level around the coffee bar who are more than happy to escort visitors to appropriate class.
What is worship like on Sunday morning?
Sunday morning worship is informal and begins with praise and worship music, followed by announcements, a children’s message, more music and then a message.
How long are Sunday services?
Most Sunday services at St. John’s last one hour or less. The length of services can vary depending on special events such as baptisms, special prayer times, etc.
Will I be recognized publicly as a visitor?
We know visiting a new church in a small town can be daunting. Publicly recognizing you as a visitor doesn’t typically happen to avoid any embarrassment or unwanted attention. Visitors are usually presented with a welcome gift sometime before or after service. We are just glad you have chosen to join us for worship.
